Ho Chi Minh City - After site clearance to expand National Highway 13, many houses located deep in alleys have suddenly become front houses.

On September 1, recording along both sides of National Highway 13, many houses after being trimmed according to site clearance limits have been repaired and renovated by homeowners to stabilize life and continue business.

Notably, many houses that were originally located in small alleys have now suddenly become front houses on National Highway 13 after the front works were cleared.

Ms. Phan Thi Loan's family (55 years old) is one of the households that clearly benefited. Her 3-story house was previously located in an alley, mainly for living and almost no business conditions. After the houses in front were cleared, her house became a street frontage.

“Previously, my house was in an alley, it was difficult to do business because customers didn't know the way in. Now that the houses in front are cleared, my house becomes a frontage of National Highway 13. This is a very big change, after the road is completed, business will be more favorable,” Ms. Loan shared.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Van Quyet (60 years old), a resident living nearby, is hiring workers to repair the facade to prepare to open a store.

For decades, my house has been in an alley, I never thought that one day the house door would look straight out onto the main road. Households in front are cleared, so houses in the alley seem to have'changed location'. Happy, but we also hope the construction will be completed soon so that life can be stable" - Mr. Quyet said.

Previously, on August 29, Ho Chi Minh City started the project to expand National Highway 13, about 6km long, from Binh Trieu bridge to Vinh Binh bridge. The project has a total investment of about 20,678 billion VND.

In which, compensation, support and resettlement costs are about 14,402 billion VND; the upgrade and expansion of National Highway 13 under the BOT contract is about 6,276 billion VND.

According to the design, National Highway 13 will be expanded to about 60m, 2-3 times the existing width of 19-27m.

The highlight of the project is the section of about 3.5km from Binh Loi intersection to Binh Phuoc intersection where an elevated road (overpass) with 4 lanes is built. Below the overpass is a parallel road with 8-10 lanes wide.

The entire project has 10 intersections. In which, the area under Binh Loi and Binh Phuoc viaducts will build underpasses to reduce conflicts between vehicle flows.

The project is expected to be completed and put into operation at the end of 2028, expected to reduce traffic pressure at the Northeast gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, synchronously with the National Highway 13 section in Binh Duong that has been expanded, and at the same time contribute to urban embellishment in the area.
