On September 16, the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway (MAUR) announced that the contractor had just successfully installed the last two pedestrian bridge girder sections at Thu Duc station. The girder spans are 32 to 33.5 meters long and have a load capacity of 74.5 to 78 tons.
This is an important milestone, marking the completion of connecting all pedestrian bridges of Metro Line 1, contributing to bringing the project closer to completion and commercial operation by the end of 2024.
Recently, the renovation of the islet and the road center at the foot of the Thu Duc steel overpass has also been completed, helping to restore traffic 45 days earlier than the original plan.
This is an area that faces many difficulties during the construction process due to limited construction space, because the steel overpass foot location has high traffic density, high load and speed.
Previously, the transport sector issued a notice banning large trucks weighing over 5 tons from passing through the overpass area from July 27 to October 29.
MAUR is currently coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport and related units to issue an official announcement on the lifting of traffic bans and restrictions in the Thu Duc steel overpass area.
The pedestrian bridge system connecting the elevated stations of Metro Line 1 is one of the final construction items of the project.
Along the route, there are 9 pedestrian bridges built, mainly on Vo Nguyen Giap Avenue - Hanoi Highway, connecting to the station's transit level. Depending on the location, each bridge is 80-150 m long, about 3.5 m wide, and nearly 5 m high.
According to MAUR, the work of completing the pedestrian bridge architecture is currently being accelerated.
The contractor has basically completed architectural items at 7 out of 9 stations, including Tan Cang, Thao Dien, An Phu, Rach Chiec, Phuoc Long, Binh Thai and Cong Nghe Cao.
It is expected that the last two pedestrian bridges at Thu Duc station and National University will be completed in October this year, in time for the organization of fire prevention and fighting acceptance inspections to complete the project and put it into operation by the end of 2024.
Metro Line 1 has a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20 km long, from Long Binh depot (Thu Duc City) to Ben Thanh (District 1). The entire line has 11 elevated stations and three underground stations.
The project has completed more than 98% of the volume, and is in the stages of system safety assessment, fire prevention and fighting acceptance, training of operating personnel, and construction of pedestrian bridges.
According to plan, Metro Line 1 will conduct a trial operation in October and November, then officially operate commercially at the end of this year.
