On the afternoon of April 6, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, the leader of Nam Cuong Commune People's Committee, Hung Yen province, said that in recent days, many clam farming areas of people in the area have died.
Local authorities have worked with the Sub-Department of Sea and Fisheries to collect relevant samples, assess and see what the weather conditions are like, because clam farming depends heavily on weather factors. Currently, clams are dying a lot in the old Nam Thinh area. Depending on the farming area of households, there are different levels of damage. Initial statistics show that some farming households only suffered about 20% damage, but some households suffered up to 80% damage," said the leader of Nam Cuong Commune People's Committee.
According to local people, the initial cause of mass clam deaths like this may be due to weather conditions. When the water recedes, encountering sunny weather, clams suffer from salt shock or heat shock.
