Lao Dong's record on the first day of implementing the one-way traffic ban on Cach Mang Thang Tam street, the number of vehicles was quite large. Some sections were slightly congested, vehicles moved slowly, especially in areas intersecting with nearby roads.
A small number of drivers have not grasped the new traffic organization plan, so when they reach a no-car area, they have to stop to find a direction to move.
Mr. Nguyen Van Son - a car driver - said that he has not grasped information about the road starting to ban cars from August 13, so when he arrived, he had to ask functional forces to guide him to turn around.
When I left, I didn't know this road was closed to cars, so I drove in. After that, I was instructed to turn around to go on another route. If I had known in advance, I would have proactively chosen another route," Mr. Son said and hoped Metro Line 2 would be completed soon, contributing to reducing traffic pressure and making people's travel more convenient.
Meanwhile, Mr. Duong Khang Huy - a businessman on Cach Mang Thang Tam street - said that traffic adjustments may have some impact on travel and business. However, he believes that this is a necessary change to serve the project and is excited that Metro Line 2 is being focused on deployment.
I hope the project will be constructed quickly, ensuring safety so that travel can be convenient soon. When Metro Line 2 is completed, people will have more choices of vehicles, hoping to reduce traffic pressure on the road," Mr. Huy shared.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the adjustment of traffic organization on Cach Mang Thang Tam street will be implemented from August 13 to serve the construction of Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong). All types of cars are prohibited from circulating in the direction from Ly Thuong Kiet street to 3 Thang 2 street. Buses are still allowed to circulate in both directions.
Cars are instructed to travel along alternative routes: Ly Thuong Kiet or Truong Chinh - Hoang Van Thu - Le Binh - Hoang Sa - Rach Bung Binh - Ba Huyen Thanh Quan - Vo Thi Sau - 3/2 Street.
Metro No. 2 started construction in January 2026, with a total investment of more than 55,000 billion VND, using city budget capital. The line is nearly 11.27 km long, of which about 9.3 km is underground and about 2 km is elevated, including 10 underground stations, 1 elevated station and 1 depot in Tham Luong.
Currently, the project focuses on constructing Pham Van Bach station and Le Thi Rieng station, which are two locations where TBM tunnel boring machines will be installed to construct the tunnel section.
According to the plan, Metro Line 2 will be completed and put into operation in 2030, contributing to connecting the central area with the Northwest gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, reducing traffic pressure on key routes.
