On August 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction announced the adjustment of traffic organization on Cach Mang Thang Tam street, the section from Ly Thuong Kiet street to 3 Thang 2 street, to serve the construction of Metro Line 2 project.
Accordingly, from August 13, 2026, all types of cars will be banned from circulating on Cach Mang Thang Tam street in the direction from Ly Thuong Kiet street to 3 Thang 2 street.
Buses are still allowed to circulate in both directions to ensure people's travel needs.
For cars, the alternative route is as follows: Ly Thuong Kiet or Truong Chinh → Hoang Van Thu → Le Binh → Hoang Sa → Rach Bung Binh → Ba Huyen Thanh Quan → Vo Thi Sau → 3/2 Street.
Metro line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong) started construction in January 2026 and is currently the fastest metro line in progress among urban railway projects being invested by Ho Chi Minh City.
The project has a total investment of more than 55,000 billion VND, using city budget capital.
The metro line is nearly 11.27 km long, of which about 9.3 km is underground and about 2 km is elevated. The entire line includes 10 underground stations, 1 elevated station and 1 depot in Tham Luong.
The route starts from Ben Thanh station, ends at Tham Luong depot, passing through 14 wards including: Ben Thanh, Ban Co, Xuan Hoa, Hoa Hung, Vuon Lai, Nhieu Loc, Tan Hoa, Tan Son Nhat, Bay Hien, Tan Binh, Tan Son, Tay Thanh, Tan Son Nhi and Dong Hung Thuan.
In the initial phase of operation, Metro Line 2 will use a 3-carriage train, reaching a maximum speed of 80-110 km/h, with a transport capacity of about 14,400 passengers/hour/direction.
Currently, the project is focusing on constructing Pham Van Bach station and Le Thi Rieng station. These are two locations where TBM tunnel boring machines will be installed to construct the tunnel section of Metro Line 2.
According to the plan, Metro Line No. 2 will be completed and put into operation in 2030, contributing to the formation of a large-capacity public transport axis, connecting the central area with the Northwest gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, reducing traffic pressure on key routes.
