Among these, the youngest patient is 17 years old, the oldest is 86 years old. The cases come from Huong Phung, Lia, Tan Lap, Khe Sanh communes (Huong Hoa district, former Quang Tri province). Most patients catch cicadas and fry them with oil and fat to eat.
After eating cicadas, patients have symptoms of abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, red rashes, severe cases of shortness of breath. If not treated promptly, patients are at risk of death.

Patients with tick poisoning need 5-7 days of treatment to stabilize their health. Treatment regimens include intravenous fluids, oral Oresol, antibiotics, anaphylactic shock medication and digestive enzymes.
Doctor Nguyen Viet Duc - Director of Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital said that the unit and health stations in the area have repeatedly warned and advised people not to eat cicadas. However, in the locality, the use of cicadas as food is still a common habit.
Therefore, the number of civet poisoning cases has not decreased, with over 10 cases hospitalized each year.
