The Food Safety Department - Ministry of Health has just sent a document to the Quang Tri Provincial Department of Health regarding the suspected food poisoning incident after eating bread that occurred in Tan Lap commune, Quang Tri province.
Accordingly, from April 29, 2026 to May 1, 2026, in Tan Lap commune, Quang Tri province, 46 people were hospitalized for emergency treatment suspected of food poisoning after eating bread with symptoms such as high fever, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain... and are being treated at Huong Hoa Regional General Hospital.
Faced with the above situation, the Food Safety Department requests the Quang Tri Provincial Department of Health to urgently implement the following contents:
- Direct medical examination and treatment facilities with patients undergoing treatment, focus resources on actively treating patients suspected of food poisoning to avoid affecting health and life.
- Organize investigations and traceability of food sources to clearly identify sources of raw materials and food suspected of causing poisoning; take food and specimens for testing to find the cause; investigate and strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any), publicize results to promptly warn the community.
- Strengthen measures to ensure food safety, prevent food poisoning, and enhance the role and responsibility of managers, producers, businesses, and consumers according to the content of Plan No. 598 dated April 10, 2026 of the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee for Food Safety on deploying the Action Month for Food Safety with the theme "Ensuring food safety, preventing food poisoning in food services and street food".
- Strengthen propaganda and guidance on food safety knowledge in production, business and consumption, focusing communication on groups of establishments producing, processing, and trading food products related to street food.
- Strictly implement the directions in Directive No. 38/CT-TTg dated October 11, 2024 of the Prime Minister on strengthening food poisoning prevention; Official Dispatch No. 656 dated February 1, 2026 of the Ministry of Health on strengthening food poisoning prevention; Official Dispatch No. 848 dated February 9, 2026 of the Ministry of Health on ensuring food safety in street food business.
- Monitor and update the developments of the poisoning incident, make quick reports according to instructions, proactively communicate information about the incident and soon publicize the results of the food poisoning investigation, and report to the Food Safety Department according to regulations.
