For fishermen, the first sea trip of the year is truly meaningful, both timely in exploiting and developing the marine economy and contributing to maintaining the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands.
Fisherman Nguyen Minh Nhi - Ganh Hao town, Dong Hai district - shared: "According to fishermen's belief, if the first trips out to sea in the year bring a lot of sea luck, the whole year will be lucky. Therefore, we believe that this year will be a year of bumper harvest, and life will be more abundant and prosperous."
Not only at Ganh Hao estuary but also at major estuaries in the province such as Cai Cung estuary, Hoa Binh district; Nha Mat estuary, Nha Mat ward, Bac Lieu city, fishermen also "opened the sea" to go offshore. Seafood caught in the first days of the year is very easy to sell due to high demand, and prices are also higher than usual, bringing a significant source of income to fishermen.
Hopefully, the first trips out to sea full of sea luck at the beginning of the year will be a good sign, creating a premise for fishermen in the coastal areas, which still face many difficulties, to have a year of good fishing season and good prices, thereby bringing a more prosperous and comfortable life.
Meanwhile, this year, rice prices in Bac Lieu have dropped, causing farmers to not have a complete Tet holiday despite high productivity. Mr. Tran Van Hieu (Ninh Hoa commune, Hong Dan district, Bac Lieu) said that he hopes that in the year of At Ty, rice prices will be higher, and farmers will have more profits on their fields.
On the third day of Tet, Mr. Tran Thanh Hung (Vinh Loi district, Bac Lieu) is preparing to go to Ho Chi Minh City to return to work at the factory tomorrow. He said: "I will start working on the 6th. I will leave a day early to arrange food and accommodation so that I will have less worries when I start working."
