Before the information spreading on social networks related to the person with the Dharma name Thich Nhuan Dat, Office 2 of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha issued document No. 058/TCBC-HDTS. VP2 dated March 6, 2026 to provide official information to press agencies and the public. The document was signed and issued by Venerable Thich Phuoc Nguyen, Deputy Secretary General of the Executive Council cum Chief of Office 2 of the Central Committee of the Sangha.
According to information from the church, the person mentioned with the Dharma name Nhuan Dat's real name is Tran Minh Thanh, born on July 31, 1978, from Ninh Thuan province (now Khanh Hoa province). This person was once a disciple of Venerable Thich Quang Thua and studied in the locality from 1996 to 2000.
The document stated that by December 3, 2025, Mr. Tran Minh Thanh had visited Quan Am Pagoda (Khanh Hoa) to worship Buddha and presented his confession to monks to express his repentance and officially leave the religious life. After repentance, he completed the marriage registration procedures according to the provisions of law.
According to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, recently on social networks, many images and videos related to the personal life of Mr. Tran Minh Thanh have appeared, attracting attention and debate in public opinion. Some images show him wearing a resident attire at home that is similar to Buddhist monk's attire, leading to misunderstandings in the online community.
The announcement of Office 2 of the Central Church was issued to provide official information for press agencies and the public to better understand the matter, and at the same time avoid unnecessary inferences that may affect relevant organizations and individuals.
Previously, content related to the personal life of Mr. Tran Minh Thanh (legal name Nhuan Dat) was widely spread on social networks and attracted public attention. However, according to the affirmation of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, he is no longer a monk of the Sangha, after officially remarrying and registering for marriage.
This information is published to help the press and the public have a more complete and accurate view of the matter, limiting unverified information that may affect the image of Buddhism.
