Faced with the situation of riverbank and coastal erosion, Ben Tre province has implemented anti-erosion embankment projects in the area. Up to now, the projects have been completed and put into use, bringing peace of mind to the people, while creating favorable conditions for local socio-economic development.
The coastal erosion and erosion prevention project in Ba Tri district includes a coastal protection embankment with a total length of about 2.3 km, with a total investment of 210 billion VND. The project is invested by the Management Board of the Investment and Construction Project of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Ben Tre province. By February 2025, the project has been basically completed and put into use, helping to prevent erosion affecting residential areas, production land and housing of people in Ba Tri district.
Mr. Tran Van Tuan (57 years old, living in Bao Thuan commune, Ba Tri district, Ben Tre province) said that people here are assured because they are no longer afraid of landslides or sea water flooding into the fields. Agricultural production and aquaculture for the people are also much more favorable.
"Since the embankment construction was implemented, the people here are very happy because they no longer have to spend money to reinforce the dykes. Up to now, the coastal erosion and erosion prevention project in Ba Tri district has been completed with aesthetic design, opening up development opportunities for the locality, Mr. Tuan shared.
As a household living along the Giao Hoa River, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Ha (73 years old, living in Giao Long Commune, Chau Thanh District, Ben Tre Province) shared: Previously, the river bank behind my house was constantly eroded, my family had to find every way to reinforce it. Now that we have a protective embankment, we can live with peace of mind, no longer worrying like before.
In Tam Hiep commune (Binh Dai district, Ben Tre province), people also expressed their excitement when the project to upgrade and reinforce the Tam Hiep embankment to prevent landslides has been completed and put into use.
Mr. Nguyen Van Muoi Nho shared: Previously, every rainy and stormy season, we were always worried about erosion and land loss due to landslides. Now, with this embankment project, we can live with peace of mind, produce agriculture to develop our family economy".
