On June 8, Dong Son Ward People's Committee (Quang Tri province) said that it had just coordinated with functional agencies to complete procedures to hand over a red-faced monkey to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms under Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park. This individual will be received, cared for and handled according to the provisions of law.
Previously, Mr. Dinh Su Ky (born in 1981, residing in Residential Group 4 Phu Vinh, Dong Son ward) when buying cows in the Le Ky road area, Quang Ninh commune, discovered a monkey jumping on his truck. Realizing that this is a rare species, he proactively reported to the Ward People's Committee to hand it over.
After receiving it, Dong Son Ward People's Committee prepared an initial dossier, coordinated with the Forest Protection Department to verify the species. The results determined that the individual was a red-faced macaque, a endangered, precious and rare species prioritized for protection. After completing the procedures, the individual was handed over to the rescue unit for reception and management.
Red-faced macaques are species listed in the Vietnam Red Book, belonging to group IIB in the List of endangered, precious and rare forest plants and animals, as stipulated in Decree 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019 of the Government.
