People are miserable because of the project "suspended" for many years

QUÁCH DU |

For decades, many households (in Truong Son ward, Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province) have had to live in cramped, seriously degraded houses, but cannot build new ones or renovate them because they are part of a road expansion project.

Living miserably for many years

According to the reflection of many households in Tay Son street (Truong Son ward, Sam Son city, Thanh Hoa province), for many years they have been living in a situation of "not being able to leave, not being able to stay" due to the Tay Son road expansion project. Many households have even accepted to live in cramped, degraded and moldy houses for decades to "wait" for the project to be implemented.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Xanh (55 years old, residing on Tay Son street) said that the project to expand Tay Son street (from Sam Son City People's Court to Ly Tu Trong street) has been around for 30 years.

“Because it is part of the project, households are not allowed to build new, renovate, or transfer houses and land. Therefore, for a long time, about 40 households in the neighborhood have had to live in extremely cramped houses,” said Mr. Xanh.

According to Mr. Xanh, Sam Son City has come many times to inventory and measure for implementation, but so far, the project is still "inactive". The residents' wish is that the city will soon implement the project, if not, there will be a decision to revoke it so that people can build, renovate or transfer their houses.

Sharing the same situation as Mr. Xanh's family, Mr. Duong Quoc Hung (50 years old, living at number 31, Tay Son street) said that for many years, his whole family had to live in a dilapidated, cramped level 4 house, unable to renovate it even if they wanted to.

“The dilapidated house was built decades ago. It is now dilapidated, the walls are peeling, and it is very moldy. However, it is part of a road expansion project so it cannot be rebuilt or renovated,” Mr. Hung shared.

According to many households living along Tay Son Street, due to the urgent need for housing, people have petitioned authorities at all levels many times at meetings and voter meetings, however, the matter has not yet been resolved.

How to handle?

Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Viet Kieu - Chairman of Truong Son Ward People's Committee, Sam Son City, Thanh Hoa Province - said that regarding the people's complaints about the slow implementation of the Tay Son road expansion project, the ward has repeatedly proposed to Sam Son City People's Committee to resolve and handle the above issue.

According to the representative of the Sam Son City People's Committee, Tay Son Street is already in the planning, so it cannot be built, renovated or transferred. As for the Tay Son Street expansion project, the city has a policy and is implementing site clearance. However, this work is also facing many difficulties, from arranging resettlement land funds, land prices, to the new Land Law which is more stringent. Therefore, more time is needed to handle the above issue.

“If the land is cleared, it can be done immediately, but if the resettlement land fund is not arranged, the land cannot be cleared. Meanwhile, people want to have land funds equivalent to the location where they live, and not move too far. Therefore, the city is currently urgently researching solutions to soon come up with a plan and completely resolve the above problem,” said a representative of the Sam Son City People’s Committee.
