According to the reporter's records, by 10:00 p.m. on August 5, the heavy rain had stopped, but flooding was still serious on Vo Chi Cong Street, in front of UDIC West Lake apartment building towards the city center.
Some low-chassis cars " reasoned" in front of the UDIC West Lake apartment building, the driver did not dare to drive through the flooded section for fear of engine failure. This caused vehicles to stall behind, extending to the intersection of National Highway 5 and Vo Nguyen Giap Street, about 5km.
The deep flooding on Vo Chi Cong Street caused Mr. Le Hoang Anh (30 years old, residing in Cau Giay Ward) to be stuck on this road for an hour. By 10pm, he had not yet escaped the dense traffic jam.
"My car and many other vehicles sometimes stand still for an hour on Nhat Tan bridge towards the city center. I hope the authorities will soon arrive at the scene to rescue me, because in this situation, we don't know when we will be able to get home" - Mr. Hoang Anh lamented.

Vo Chi Cong Street has 10 two-way lanes, each direction has 3 car lanes, 2 mixed lanes. Unable to wait patiently for the water to recede, some people drove cars and motorbikes into the left lane to get through the flooded section.
However, many vehicles could not pass the deeply flooded section, stalled in the middle of the road waiting for rescue.
Flooding also occurred on Vo Chi Cong Street in the opposite direction (in front of Lotte Mall Tay Ho).
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truc (34 years old, residing in Tay Ho ward) said that every time it rains heavily, the Lotte Mall Tay Ho section and the opposite section are flooded, with some sections deeply submerged in half a motorbike.
"The hard median strip divides the lane, the mixed lane is flooded deeper than the lane reserved for cars, and if you go day or night, it is flooded like a river, you don't dare to cross" - Mr. Truc said.

In addition to Vo Chi Cong Street, heavy rain also caused the elevated Ring Road 3 to be flooded, making it very difficult for vehicles to move.
The Northern Hydrometeorological Station forecasts that due to the influence of the low pressure trough gradually moving south, combined with the convergence of high-altitude winds gradually becoming stronger, Hanoi will have rain, showers and thunderstorms in the evening and night of August 5 and the night of August 6, with heavy rain in some places; common rainfall is 15-30mm, some places are higher than 50mm.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms that appear after a long period of hot weather pose many potential risks, easily accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, which can damage houses, trees and fall, damage property and affect traffic safety.
From August 7, rain will only last in some places, with hot weather and severe heat returning, lasting until August 11.
