On March 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center announced that 109 subsidized bus routes in the area will be free of tickets for all passengers on the day of the 16th National Assembly election and People's Council delegates at all levels (March 15, 2026).
In addition, 9 non-subsidized routes also participate in the free program, including: 67, 109, 171, 172, 60-1, 60-3, 60-5, 60-7 and 63-1.
Passengers traveling on Metro Line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) are also exempt from tickets on March 15, 2026.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center, the program not only supports voters to conveniently go to the polling station but also contributes to encouraging people to use public transport. Through this, the city continues to promote the transition to green transport, reduce personal vehicles, and limit congestion and environmental pollution.
Previously, in 2025 and early 2026, people in Ho Chi Minh City were allowed to take Metro Line 1 and buses for free on major holidays such as April 30, May 1, September 2, New Year's Day and Lunar New Year 2026.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, these free trips bring positive effects when the number of passengers increases by about 17% compared to the same period, and at the same time help people have more convenient and friendly experiences with the city's public transport system.
