The project with a total investment of more than 730 billion VND has attracted great attention from the people when it was finally completed after many delays.
At the opening ceremony organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), the bridge was considered one of the key traffic projects of Ho Chi Minh City.
With a length of 450m, Nam Ly Bridge is designed with two branches 20m wide, with an approach road more than 300m long and 30 to 37m wide.
This project started in 2016, but after nearly 3 years of construction, when only 40% of the volume was completed, the project had to be temporarily suspended due to problems in site clearance.
After many efforts, by March 2023, when Thu Duc City basically completed compensation and site handover, the project was able to continue implementation.
Immediately after receiving the site, the Traffic Department and construction units promptly started working, from gathering materials and equipment to organizing the construction.
Thanks to the synchronous coordination, the main bridge and the approach roads at both ends of the bridge were completed and put into operation on time, serving the travel needs of the people.
The remainder of the project, including residential roads and remaining finishing work, is expected to be completed by December 2024.
Nam Ly Bridge is not only significant in terms of traffic connection but also plays an important role in the socio-economic development of Thu Duc City and Ho Chi Minh City.
By road, the bridge connects Do Xuan Hop Street, a main route running through An Phu, Binh Trung Tay, Phuoc Long A, Phuoc Long B and Phuoc Binh wards, facilitating traffic between neighboring residential areas and connecting directly with Vo Nguyen Giap Street and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.
Regarding waterways, Rach Chiec - where Nam Ly Bridge crosses - has been planned as a level 4 river, qualified to meet the demand for waterway traffic after the waterway from Saigon River to Dong Nai River is opened. This further highlights the role of Nam Ly Bridge in supporting the transport of goods not only by road but also by waterway, contributing to promoting trade and the regional economy.
Along with the opening of Nam Ly Bridge, the Do Xuan Hop Street expansion project has also restarted after a long period of stagnation. The upgraded section is 1.8 km long, from Nam Ly Bridge to Nguyen Duy Trinh Street, with a total investment of more than 838 billion VND. After being expanded to 6 lanes, the road will be 27 to 30 m wide, expected to be completed in 2025.
When completed, together with Nam Ly Bridge, this route will enhance traffic connection from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Nguyen Duy Trinh Street.
In addition to the above project, Thu Duc City is speeding up the construction of the nearly 700 billion VND Tang Long Bridge on La Xuan Oai Street. It is expected to be completed by December 2024, opening the left branch of the bridge to traffic. After that, the old bridge will be dismantled and the right branch of the bridge will be constructed. By December 2025, the entire project will be completed.
