Adults wear helmets, children don't.
During many days of recording at the traffic violation handling checkpoints of the Special Task Force - Hanoi City Police, the cases handled for not wearing helmets mostly focused on groups of parents carrying students behind. What is noteworthy is that most of the parents were wearing helmets, however, the students sitting behind were not.
As recorded on October 30, at the Cua Bac - Phan Dinh Phung intersection, the working group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 2 (Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police) coordinated with Ba Dinh District Police to inspect and handle traffic violations among school-age children.
In just over 1 hour of deploying forces, a series of cases of parents carrying students sitting behind without wearing helmets were punished.
"Most people will give the reason that they are in a hurry and are afraid that their children will be late for school so they forget. This is a story about awareness, not just a simple violation. Parents need to pay attention to their children from the smallest things, and wearing a helmet is the simplest thing. Don't wait until unfortunate incidents happen to realize it," a member of the Working Group shared.
Sharing with reporters, Mr. D.H.D (Hanoi) - a case handled for the violation of carrying a passenger behind without wearing a helmet, said that the family also bought a helmet for their child. However, thinking that the house was only more than 1km from the school, and the child was in a hurry, he did not wear a helmet.
"After today, I will definitely remind my family members to wear helmets when riding on the road," Mr. D.H.D shared.
According to data from the Hanoi Traffic Police Department, during the 1-month peak period of ensuring traffic safety for school-age children (from October 1-30, 2024), 6,602 cases were penalized for not wearing helmets.
Positive change
Statistics from the Hanoi Traffic Police Department show that from October 1 to now, 7,614 violations involving students have been handled.
Of these, more than 6,600 were not wearing helmets, and nearly 1,400 were driving while unqualified. In addition, the police also handled nearly 500 parents and vehicle owners who handed over their vehicles to unqualified drivers.
In addition, the traffic police force has also made a list of more than 3,000 students who violated the law to send a notice to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training for handling measures.
In addition to handling violations, 147 traffic safety propaganda sessions were also organized, reaching about 135,000 students and more than 11,200 teachers at all levels.
"Thanks to the comprehensive participation of all forces in propaganda and combined handling of violations, students' awareness of obeying road traffic laws has increased significantly, and violations have also decreased significantly day by day.
However, the most important thing right now is that parents need to raise their sense of responsibility, set an example in obeying the law, regularly monitor and remind their children to obey the law when participating in traffic, and prevent violations from the beginning," Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Khanh Toan - officer of the Traffic Police Team, Ba Dinh District Police shared.
The leader of the Hanoi Traffic Police Department emphasized that inspection and handling of violations will be carried out thoroughly and maintained regularly and continuously, not only during this peak period.
Through the handling work, we aim to create positive changes in awareness and compliance with traffic safety laws of parents and students, ensuring strict adherence to the law and minimizing traffic accidents involving students.
