Temporarily suspend to suit the actual situation
On March 8, Mr. Trinh Van Nha - Chairman of Thanh Chuong District People's Committee (Nghe An province) - said that the locality had sent a document to the communes to temporarily suspend the organization of commune-level sports festivals.
"Currently, the Central Government has a policy of streamlining the apparatus and rearranging a number of administrative units. Therefore, the district temporarily suspended the organization of sports festivals to seek opinions from the Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism to adjust the plan to suit reality, avoiding waste" - Mr. Nha said.

However, according to Mr. Nha, organizing a sports festival is not as important as maintaining and promoting a regular and widespread sports training movement among the people.
Not only Thanh Chuong district, Mr. Vu Tuan Dung - Chairman of Yen Thanh District People's Committee also informed that the district will have a document directing the temporary suspension of organizing commune-level sports festivals.
"This is a positive event, responded to by the people. However, at present, the district has temporarily suspended to adapt to the situation and wait for instructions from competent authorities" - Mr. Dung said.
Poor budget, not bringing long-term results
Although it is a meaningful movement, according to some opinions, organizing sports festivals in some localities is still formal, costly and has not maintained long-term effectiveness.
A teacher in Yen Thanh district shared: "To have an opening performance, hundreds of students had to practice hard for many days, while the support budget was not enough. Hearing the news of the congress being suspended, we teachers were very happy to have helped a very difficult stage, giving students and teachers more time to teach and rest."
According to research, the cost of organizing a commune-level sports festival is up to tens of millions of VND. Therefore, the temporary suspension of this event by districts is not only in line with the current situation but also helps save a large budget.
Not only stopping organizing commune-level sports festivals, in recent times, many districts in Nghe An such as Tan Ky and Do Luong have also temporarily suspended projects to build district-level headquarters and cultural houses with a total investment of up to hundreds of billions of VND.
This is to review and adjust public investment plans, ensuring reasonable use of the budget, in accordance with the orientation of streamlining the administrative apparatus.
The temporary suspension of organizing commune-level sports festivals in many districts and cutting some large investment projects are important adjustments, helping localities focus resources on more urgent tasks in the current context.
