On November 18 and the morning of November 19, many trucks, container trucks, and passenger cars traveling on National Highway 22, from Cu Chi District (HCMC) to Tay Ninh, were mobilized by the Traffic Police of the Northwest Traffic Police Station under the HCMC Traffic Police Department to install surveillance cameras to ensure traffic safety.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khang, a container truck driver transporting goods to Tay Ninh, said that when the Northwest Traffic Police analyzed the benefits of installing surveillance cameras for oversized and overweight vehicles, he immediately installed the cameras.
"The container truck I am driving has many blind spots, so when driving I cannot observe everything in front of the vehicle, behind the vehicle and on both sides. Installing a dash cam will help me eliminate these blind spots, so I feel more secure and safe when driving" - Mr. Khang shared.
Also persuaded by the Northwest Traffic Police to install a dash cam, Mr. Phan Duc Tam, a heavy truck driver transporting goods from Ho Chi Minh City to Tay Ninh, said that thanks to the Traffic Police's analysis of the risks leading to traffic accidents from the blind spots of trucks, he "awakened" and immediately installed a dash cam.
"Looking back at previous traffic accidents, many of which originated from the blind spots of heavy trucks, really scared me. After being explained by the Northwest Traffic Police, I installed a set of dash cam equipment including a recorder, a side-view camera, a 7-inch screen... at a total cost of more than 8 million VND. Spending more than 8 million VND, but the benefits and safety for myself, as well as other road users, are huge" - Mr. Tam said.
The leader of the Northwest Traffic Police Station said that as of November 19, the Northwest Traffic Police Station had convinced more than 25 truck, container and passenger car drivers passing through the area to agree to install a set of journey monitoring cameras.
According to the leader of the Northwest Traffic Police Station, in the past, there have been traffic accidents caused by blind spots of vehicles. Installing cameras in hidden locations such as the front, rear and sides of the vehicle will help drivers increase their visibility. Therefore, the Traffic Police of the Northwest Traffic Police Station has stepped up propaganda, mobilization and persuasion of drivers to install journey monitoring cameras to reduce the risk of traffic accidents.
On the morning of November 19, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department said that so far, more than 150 cars have been equipped with additional surveillance cameras at the Traffic Police Teams and Traffic Police Stations under the PC08 Department. In addition to promoting the installation of cameras, the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police also organized many propaganda sessions at schools simulating blind spot accidents so that students can be cautious when driving near trucks.
