Sweaty women on the construction site in the hot sun

Ha Tinh - On construction sites, women have braved the hot sun and hardship with heavy construction work.

On June 8, according to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, in Ha Tinh, the weather is still hot and sunny, with high temperatures, causing many women working as construction workers on residential housing construction sites and urban area projects to clearly feel fatigue and hardship.

Participating in assisting in transporting and packing formwork at a resident's house in Thanh Sen ward, Ha Tinh province, Ms. Tran Thi Nghia (62 years old, residing in Toan Luu commune, Ha Tinh province) said that she is paid 350 thousand VND per working day.

According to Ms. Nghia, working at a construction site in hot weather is very hard, she wants to be paid higher wages. However, the contractor also bases on work efficiency to pay appropriate wages.

For herself, being old and working is no longer as healthy and agile as young labor, Ms. Nghia also feels that such a wage is acceptable.

At my age, I should have been able to rest, but I am a freelancer, without a pension, so when I still have strength, I have to take advantage of working to earn money for spending, and also save money to have money for medicine and treatment when I get old," Ms. Nghia shared.

Working with his wife as a hired tile painter, Mr. Tran Van Han (69 years old, residing in Toan Luu commune, Ha Tinh province) said that he used to work as a construction worker, but later switched to working as a hired tile painter.

According to Mr. Han, these hot summer days are very hard to work, to limit the impact of hot weather on health, the contractor has adjusted the time to work early, rest early, and work late in the afternoon and rest later.

Participating as a construction worker at a civil house construction site in Ha Huy Tap ward, Ms. Phan Thi Anh (42 years old, residing in Thanh Sen ward, Ha Tinh province) said that hot weather makes construction work very hard. However, to have money to cover living expenses and raise her children to study, she has to accept working even though many days she feels very tired.

According to Ms. Phan Thi Anh, she is paid 400,000 VND per working day. Her wish is that the contractor can increase the wage to encourage workers to work hard in hot weather.

Everyone who works wants to be paid high wages. However, with a salary of 400,000 VND per day, I have to accept it. Income is not high, so I have to spend more sparingly, work more diligently to have money to cover living expenses," Ms. Phan Thi Anh shared.

Mr. Tran Hau Dung (resident in Thanh Sen ward, Ha Tinh province) is a civil house construction contractor - said that he is currently contracting to build 4 civil houses. His group of workers has 5 women participating as construction workers.

Hot weather makes the job of construction worker and mason even more difficult, especially for women. However, after many years in the profession, they are also used to the hardship, so they still maintain going to work regularly," Mr. Tran Hau Dung shared.

According to Mr. Dung, he also wants to increase wages for the group of workers in general, and female construction workers in particular. However, it is also necessary to base on the bidding price and other costs to pay wages appropriately, to both satisfy workers and have a reasonable surplus for the contractor.
