According to the Project, the two provinces of Bac Ninh - Bac Giang will merge and have a new name, Bac Ninh province, the administrative center will be located in the current Bac Giang city. The new Bac Ninh province will have a total of 99 communes and wards; population of 3,619,433 people.
The project also assessed the impacts of the establishment of the new Bac Ninh province after the merger.
Accordingly, the new Bac Ninh province will be located in the Northern key economic region, in the economic triangle of Hanoi - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh and will be the northeastern gateway of the capital Hanoi.
Bac Ninh together with Hanoi, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh forms a chain, playing the role of the focus, core of socio-economic development of the region and Northeast region of Vietnam.
