Planting 60,000 native trees in the protective forest area
Trees help slow climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas that causes global warming. On average, forests and other onshore ecosystems absorb nearly a third of emissions from fossil fuels, industry and other human-caused causes.
Mr. Trinh Le Nguyen - Director of the Center for People and Nature ( PanNature) - said: Planting forests, specifically with the "Green Forest" program initiated by PanNature since 2022 to restore 500 hectares of natural forest connecting Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho district (Son La) is our great effort over the past 10 years (2022 - 2032).
This forest strip is considered an important "green lung" of the Northwest, home to the rare Black-tailed White-tailed Whale species and many endemic plants and animals. However, due to the pressure of exploitation and economic development, the natural ecosystems here are facing many challenges and are being strongly affected. From 2022 to August 2025, with the cooperation of businesses, units and communities, PanNature has planted more than 180,000 trees, covering more than 280 hectares in the area.
"We highly appreciate the efforts of businesses, communities and local management agencies in the forest restoration process. PanNature has initiated the Green Forest Program to restore forests since 2022, and it is the cooperation of all parties that helps our program to be supported. When the community, businesses and conservation units join hands to cooperate, we not only plant trees, but also sow faith and hope for the forests to return to green" - Mr. Nguyen said.
The "Gup la Hoa Rung" campaign was initiated by Vietnam Airlines and MoMo on World Environment Day June 5, 2024, with the coordination of PanNature in the implementation phase to contribute to planting trees to restore forests in the Northwest. Vietnam Airlines and MoMo deduct a portion of the revenue from airfares from transactions on the application to raise funds for afforestation. This practical result-making campaign has encouraged the participation of the community, including customers, contributing to environmental protection and sustainable development.
With the support of many customers and the consensus of the local community, in 2024, the campaign planted 35,000 trees, greening 53 hectares of forest in Hoa Binh and Son La. In 2025, the "Gap la va rung" campaign will continue on a larger scale, with more than 60,000 trees planted on an area of nearly 100 hectares.
Accompanying the process of caring for, monitoring and protecting the restored forest area
Most recently, more than 100 people including the Pha Luong village community, forest rangers of the XVI Forest Protection Department and Xuan Nha Special Forests, officers of Chieng Son Border Guard Station, representatives of businesses and PanNature and volunteers started tree planting activities in the campaign "Gup la va rung 2025".
" Participating in the campaign to plant 60,000 native trees including guava, cajuput, goji berries, cinnamon, dai gai... in the protective forest area of Pha Luong village, Chieng Son commune, Son La province, I hope to contribute my efforts to the revival of my homeland's forests" - Ms. B.M.A (25 years old, people of Chieng Son commune) shared.
The Center for People and Nature is the unit in charge of technical, implementation and supervision of activities, with the enthusiastic coordination of local forces. Local people not only participate in planting trees but also care for and monitor the plants.
Mr. Truong Van Linh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Chieng Son commune (Son La province) - shared: "Chieng Son is one of the communes with a large area of natural forests in the province. However, many natural forest areas here are being degraded, directly affecting water resources, the living environment and people's livelihoods. The "Gap la Hoa Rung" campaign therefore not only has environmental significance, but is also a practical action contributing to the protection of culture as well as the livelihood associated with the forest of the people".
The joint efforts of businesses and communities in "Gap la va rung" are commitments to sustainable development, to join hands to protect the living environment for future generations, demonstrating the responsibility, pride and enthusiasm in each canopy and branch of the leaves.
We highly appreciate the close coordination between businesses, conservation organizations and the Pha Luong village community in efforts to restore forests. Planting 60,000 native trees is not only a tree planting event, but is the first step in the process of sustainable forest restoration. We, the Forest Protection Department, are committed to accompanying the community in the process of caring for, monitoring and protecting the recovered forest area" - Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong - Deputy Director of Xuan Nha Special Forest Management Board - committed.
