Mr. Tran Dat's herd of 30 pigs in Chau Thuan Bien village, Dong Son commune, died of the epidemic. His family once invested 70 million VND to build a barn and start a business raising pigs, but the first batch of pigs suffered heavy losses. Now Mr. Dat wants to play again, but it is not possible.

"If there is no State support to restore the pigs now, I will have to accept and leave. Now my family is exhausted, there is nothing left to re-arrange, the barn is done but still owed," Mr. Tran Dat lamented.
The African swine fever that has lasted since the beginning of July has caused farmers heavy economic losses. Many households are left penniless, no longer able to invest, and can only rely on support to re-herd.
Up to now, about 50,000 pigs with a total weight of more than 2,650 tons of livestock households in Quang Ngai have been destroyed by infection, causing serious economic damage. These livestock farming households are waiting for support policies to proactively herd after the epidemic.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc - Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Dong Son commune said: "African swine fever causes serious damage to livestock farmers in the commune. The locality has prepared detailed records, inventoryed, weighed and determined the quantity, with confirmation from the people and the owners signing the record to later submit to the superiors, requesting support for the people to re-herd".
Quang Ngai province is currently directing the completion of documents and procedures to promptly pay support, with 40,000 VND/kg of destroyed live pigs. At the same time, the province also directed the adequate supply of vaccines and epidemic prevention chemicals and instructed households to apply biosafety livestock farming to limit the spread.
Mr. Do Van Chung - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Ngai province said: "Pig farming in the direction of biosafety is a fundamental measure to respond to African swine fever. Currently, there is a vaccine, but it is not possible to vaccinate sows and breeding pigs. Therefore, besides vaccines, biosafety livestock farming is still an important solution to control the epidemic and re-herd after the epidemic".
African swine fever in Quang Ngai is gradually being controlled. Therefore, it is necessary to promptly support funding for households with destroyed pigs, helping people proactively to herd again when the epidemic ends.
