According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, in just over a month (from July 1 to August 5, 2025), African swine fever broke out in 52 communes, wards and towns, causing more than 49,000 sick pigs to be destroyed, with a total weight of nearly 2,650 tons. In particular, over 7,750 livestock households were affected, causing serious economic damage.
Currently, 3 localities including Son Tay Ha commune, Kon Plong commune and Nguyen Nghiem ward have not had any new outbreaks for 21 days; 7 communes including Son Tay Thuong, Van Tuong, Ba Dong, Sa Loong, Dong Tra Bong, Khanh Cuong and Ly Son special zone have not had any more pigs with diseases that must be destroyed for more than 10 days.
However, the risk of the epidemic recurring and spreading is still very high due to unfavorable weather conditions, slow vaccination in some places, unsafe biological systems and limited awareness of disease prevention among people.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment has provided 5,000 doses of the African swine fever vaccine (AVAC) and more than 4,800 liters of chemicals to localities for vaccination and disinfection of livestock environments. At the time of reporting, localities had deployed 1,740 doses of vaccine to prevent African swine fever.
Currently, the agricultural sector and localities are making efforts to implement drastic preventive and control measures; thanks to that, the epidemic situation is gradually being controlled, the number of pigs infected with the disease is decreasing. However, according to the assessment of functional sectors, the weather in the province is complicated (the western region has a lot of rain, high humidity; the eastern region is hot and sunny, the environmental temperature increases) affecting the resistance of livestock and increasing the risk of the emergence and spread of dangerous diseases.
According to Mr. Tran Phuoc Hien - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, the province is making every effort to soon control, control and extinguish African swine fever in August 2025 to limit damage to livestock farmers. Therefore, the province has requested departments, branches and localities to continue to synchronously, drastically and effectively implement epidemic prevention and control measures according to the direction of the Central Government and the Provincial People's Committee.
The People's Committees of communes, wards and towns report and propose to the Party Committee to mobilize the entire political system to participate in the prevention and control of African swine fever and some other diseases in poultry and livestock that may arise in the coming time.
In the immediate future, proactively use the budget reserve fund allocated to spend on epidemic prevention and control in the area; at the same time, urgently report and recommend (through the Department of Finance) on funding needs to ensure effective service for local epidemic prevention and control, especially the cost of supporting pig farmers whose pigs were destroyed by the epidemic.
