In recent days, many households in Quang Trung village, Thach Quang commune (Thanh Hoa province) discovered that the well water suddenly turned red-purple, accompanied by a foul odor.

According to people, this situation had happened before, but this time it is serious and prolonged. Not only is the color of the drilled well water changed, a similar phenomenon has also appeared at Bai Ron stream in the village.
For about half a month, every time the family pumped water from the drilled well, they discovered that the water turned purple-red, smelled very bad and could not be used, so they had to buy water to use temporarily" - Ms. Dung (resident in Quang Trung village, Thach Quang commune) said.
Also according to Ms. Dung, after the incident occurred, many households reported to the local authorities. The Commune People's Committee has sent functional forces to inspect and take water samples.
For decades, people have mainly used well water for daily life. Now the water has changed color and smells fishy, so they dare not use it, only worried about affecting their health" - Ms. Bui Thi Hue (resident in Quang Trung village) said.

According to people's reflections, while waiting for functional agencies to clarify the cause, households have to buy clean water for temporary use to ensure safety.
Representatives of the leaders of Thach Quang Commune People's Committee said that immediately after receiving the information, the locality sent forces to inspect and verify, and at the same time reported to the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take water samples to clarify the cause.

Initially, functional forces determined that the phenomenon of Bai Ron stream water and drilled well water of households changing color may be related to incidents in the discharge activities of BOB Hanoi Co., Ltd. - Branch 1 (textile, garment, laundry sector) in the area.
According to preliminary statistics, more than 20 households are affected. The locality has recommended that people temporarily not use polluted water sources, waiting for official conclusions from functional agencies" - a representative of the Commune People's Committee informed.
Also according to local representatives, the business has admitted the mistake and initially supported clean water for affected households. At the same time, it is committed to extending water supply pipes to households, ensuring domestic water sources in the coming time.
