On September 27, Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Plo commune, Quang Ngai province - said that immediately after discovering an unusually long crack and a high risk of landslides in the mountainous area of Rooc Met village, the local government urgently evacuated households living at the foot of the mountain to temporary safe places.
According to Mr. Vinh, the crack on the top of the hill in Rooc Met village that appeared after the rain (where people were growing cassava and coffee) was 5-15cm wide, 45-50cm deep, and nearly 200m long.
"The area below the hill has 12 households with 54 people living there, behind the households' houses there are also long cracks, which can cause unsafety for houses, property, and lives when landslides occur," Mr. Vinh added.

In this situation, the People's Committee of Dak Plo commune has established a team to inspect the scene and determined that the hill area in Rooc Met village is at high risk of landslides. At the same time, warning signs were put up, informing villagers to limit travel near areas at risk of landslides.
In addition, households are encouraged to live interspersed with schools and greenhouses.
The People's Committee of Dak Plo commune requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ngai province to send professional and specialized staff to coordinate with local authorities to inspect the scene (on September 29) to review, evaluate and find solutions to handle the landslide risk points, handle them effectively, ensure safety of life and property, and stabilize people's lives.
