On August 26, Mr. Dang Xuan Trung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Tinh Commune, Quang Ngai Province - said that the commune government had destroyed 800 ducks of a household tested positive for influenza A/H5N1 virus.
According to Mr. Trung, Mr. L.N.P's duck flock (in Ha Nhai Bac village, Son Tinh commune) tested positive for influenza A/H5N1 virus, with a total weight of about 400kg. Previously, when detecting unusual signs, the herd owner reported to the veterinary agency to take samples and send them to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Center II; the results confirmed H5N1 infection.
The A/H5N1 influenza virus is at risk of spreading to humans, so the entire destruction process is strictly implemented, ensuring biosafety and environmental sanitation. The outbreak area has also been isolated and thoroughly handled to prevent the spread. Up to now, the commune has not recorded any new outbreaks, Mr. Trung informed.
According to Mr. Do Van Chung - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Ngai province, in addition to destroying the sick ducks, the authorities have deployed vaccination to control pathogens.
Since the beginning of July 2025, Son Tinh commune has also recorded African swine fever. To date, nearly 4,000 pigs with a total weight of more than 245 tons have been destroyed. Son Tinh commune is still one of the 5 localities in the province that are heavily affected by African swine fever.
