Exposing the case of dumping 500 tons of waste, people are still worried about pollution

More than 500 tons of waste from the storage warehouse of Phu Minh Vina Environment Co., Ltd. have been illegally dumped into the environment, the Government Inspectorate proposed that the Police agency initiate a criminal case.

Lao Dong Newspaper has had many reflections on the environmental pollution concerns of people living near the industrial waste and medical waste treatment plant of Phu Minh Vina Environment Co., Ltd. (Phu Minh Vina Company) in Tram Than commune, Phu Tho province.

The situation of smoke and a pungent smell from the process of burning and treating industrial waste and hazardous waste of Phu Minh Vina Company has affected the lives of local people. People are particularly worried that thousands of tons of solid waste stored at the factory will affect the soil and water environment in the long term.

On the evening of June 28, the inspection team of the Government Inspectorate in coordination with relevant agencies caught many trucks carrying waste from the factory area of Phu Minh Vina Company (Tram Than commune, Phu Tho) to dump waste on the Ca Lo riverbank (Phuc Thinh commune, Hanoi City). From June 21 to the time of detection, there have been about over 500 tons of waste dumped illegally.

Through initial verification, Phu Minh Vina Company hired a unit to transport waste from the factory to dump at a price of 700 VND/kg. The dumping location is in the Ca Lo riverbank area, with the aim of being swept away by water when it rains heavily, erasing traces of illegal dumping.

Right on the morning of June 29, the Government Inspectorate organized the announcement of the inspection decision on law compliance in management, transportation, and waste treatment activities for Phu Minh Vina Environment Co., Ltd. in order to comprehensively assess the compliance with legal regulations in the field of environment, promptly detect and clarify existing shortcomings and limitations (if any), contributing to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of State management and ensuring the strictness of the law.

For the people of Tram Than commune, the functional agencies' involvement in inspecting and handling environmental issues of Phu Minh Vina Company has helped resolve long-standing grievances. However, concerns about environmental pollution still remain when after a long period of operation, thousands of tons of industrial waste and hazardous waste are stored here.

The biggest concern is that hazardous waste is collected here, if it is not treated and buried, it will see through the soil and water, many years later, our children and grandchildren will still have to bear it" - Mr. Bui Van Hai, Tram Than commune said.

That is also the common concern of dozens of households living near the factory of Phu Minh Vina Company when every day convoys of trucks carrying hazardous waste and industrial waste still rumble in and out. At many times, the stench and waste scattered throughout a section of road through residential areas.

Those concerns are completely justified, because when conducting inspections at the factory of Phu Minh Vina Company, the Government Inspectorate recorded that some waste storage areas showed signs of not being managed according to the correct procedures. Some waste residue areas need to continue to identify the origin, type, and volume.

On that basis, the Government Inspectorate issued a document proposing to consider initiating a criminal case and sent it to the Investigation Police Agency, Phu Tho Provincial Police to investigate and clarify all violations of relevant organizations and individuals.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Do - Deputy Head of the Economic Police Department, Phu Tho Provincial Police - said that the unit has received information and documents transferred by the inspection agency related to some violations of Phu Minh Vina Company.

Based on the documents we have obtained, combined with the documents transferred, we will consolidate the investigation and handle them strictly according to the provisions of law" - Lieutenant Colonel Le Do informed.

According to the hazardous waste treatment permit code QLCTNH: 123456.016. VX issued on December 24, 2021 by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to Phu Minh Vina Environmental Co., Ltd., this unit only has a single industrial waste and medical waste treatment facility at the Waste Treatment Zone, Tram Than commune, Phu Tho province. Bringing waste to other locations outside the factory in Tram Than commune for collection and treatment is illegal.
