On July 8, Mr. Luyen Huu Chung - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lao Cai province informed that immediately after suspicious information about the Math exam results appeared on social networks, the unit proactively inspected and verified even though there was no request.
According to Mr. Chung, the review is carried out in all stages, from exam supervision, records at the exam site, analysis of score distribution to comparing exam results with transcripts and academic achievements of candidates in 3 years of high school.
Through review, more than 40 exam papers with a score of 10 in Mathematics all belong to students of Nguyen Tat Thanh Specialized High School.
Initial results show that no abnormal signs have been detected. 100% of students with perfect scores have excellent academic performance, the final score in Mathematics is very high; many students are members of the national excellent student team and have won major awards.
Among the total of 40 candidates who achieved a score of 10, 18 have met the conditions to be directly admitted to top universities, so there is no need to use the results of the high school graduation exam for admission consideration," affirmed the Director of the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Education and Training.

Regarding the appearance of a cluster of high scores concentrated in the score distribution chart, Mr. Luyen Huu Chung explained that the reason stems from the software of the Ministry of Education and Training automatically numbering admissions.
Accordingly, the registration number range of students of Nguyen Tat Thanh Specialized High School is placed adjacent to the number range of many rural schools, leading to the appearance of a group of high scores concentrated when analyzing data according to the registration number.
This is a normal technical phenomenon, not reflecting incorrect exam results.
The Department's leader also said that the score of 10 in Mathematics is only concentrated in specialized science classes such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Informatics; there is no situation of high scores spreading out in specialized social science classes.
Previously, many articles analyzing exam score data appeared on social networks, claiming that there was a phenomenon of high score concentration at a cluster of exam registration numbers in Lao Cai province.
According to data released by the Ministry of Education and Training, Lao Cai has 19,338 candidates taking the Math exam, the average score reached 4.88; more than 56.7% of exam papers were below 5 points.
The whole province has 60 exam papers achieving a score of 10 in Mathematics. In the registration number range from 15009911 to 15010257 including 346 candidates, 262 students achieved 8 points or higher, accounting for 75.7%.
Notably, 43 out of a total of 60 exam papers achieving a score of 10 are in this registration number range, while the remaining 17 scores of 10 are distributed among more than 18,900 other candidates.
