On November 27, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh signed a decision approving the results of the appraisal of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report of the project "Ka Pet Reservoir, Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan province".
The project investor is the Project Management Board for Investment in Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development of Binh Thuan Province, responsible for implementing the provisions of Article 37 of the Law on Environmental Protection and Article 27 of Decree No. 08/2022/ND-CP when implementing the project in My Thanh and Ham Can communes, Ham Thuan Nam district.
According to the EIA report, the Ka Pet reservoir has a scale including a regulating reservoir with a total capacity of Wtb = 51.21 million m3. The project creates a source of irrigation water for agriculture, daily life, industry, tourism - services and regulates water for the downstream areas of communes in Ham Thuan Nam district and Phan Thiet city. The project has been approved by the National Assembly in the investment policy in Resolution No. 93/2019/QH14 dated November 26, 2019 and adjusted the investment policy in Resolution No. 101/2023/QH15 dated June 24, 2023.
According to the EIA report, many measures to minimize impacts on biodiversity are proposed, such as projects are only allowed to be implemented after being permitted by competent state agencies to change land use purposes and forest use purposes in accordance with legal regulations.
Implement payment for reforestation to the Forest Protection and Development Fund of Binh Thuan province to reforest at least 1,845 hectares of forest in accordance with the law. Apply advanced construction methods to minimize impacts on the habitat of aquatic species and reduce the amount of suspended solids in water sources.
And implement regulations to protect biodiversity, strictly prohibit hunting animals, cutting down plants; strictly prohibit dumping garbage and dirty wastewater into Ba Bich stream and Ba Ha stream...
