On the evening of November 24, leaders of Tra Tap commune, Nam Tra My district, Quang Nam province said that heavy rains over the past few days had caused part of the Rang Chuoi school in village 1 to collapse and crack due to landslides.
The landslide occurred on the afternoon of November 24. Rocks and soil from the slope behind the school collapsed a large section of the wall. It then continued to flow into the classroom, damaging many school supplies.
This mountainous school was inaugurated on September 7, 2024, sponsored by benefactors, with a construction cost of more than 1.4 billion VND, replacing a degraded temporary school.
The project has a total area of nearly 200m², including 2 classrooms, 1 dormitory, kitchen, toilet, playground, fence... currently has 35 preschool and primary school students studying.
Fortunately, at the time of the landslide, all teachers and students were not at the scene.
"The previous rain caused a landslide on the embankment behind the school. The local authorities closed the school to move the classrooms to the old school site (made of wood), waiting for a plan to build a dike. However, the landslide is getting bigger and bigger, rocks and soil are continuously flowing down, making it difficult to fix," said a leader of Tra Tap commune.
In addition to the collapsed Rang Chuoi school, many traffic routes in Nam Tra My such as DH3, DH6, DH9 also had large landslides, causing damage and complete breakage of the road surface, which cannot be repaired.
