On April 27, Mr. Tran Hong Ha - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister inspected the progress of the implementation of Quang Tri Airport and My Thuy Port Area. Accompanying him were Acting Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien.
My Thuy Port area was approved by the Prime Minister for investment according to Decision No. 16/QD-TTg dated January 4, 2019, with My Thuy International Port Joint Venture Joint Stock Company (MTIP) as the investor. The project has a scale of 10 wharves, a total investment of VND15,000 billion, and an area of 685 hectares. When completed, the port can receive container ships, cargo ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons and LNG transport ships with a capacity of 150,000 tons. The exploitation output is expected to reach 12 million tons/year in phase 1 and 30 million tons/year when fully completed.

The project has completed legal procedures for phase 1 construction and is preparing for phases 2 and 3. According to the plan, wharf No. 1 will operate in December 2025, wharf No. 2 in the first quarter of 2026 and complete the entire phase 1 in 2027.
At the inspection, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha acknowledged the efforts of the investor, and at the same time proposed to coordinate with the province in organizing synchronous infrastructure planning, developing logistics areas and moving towards the "green port" model, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Quang Tri also proposed that the Central Government allocate capital to implement National Highway 15D connecting My Thuy Port with La Lay International Border Gate and consider adjusting the planning of the Southeast Economic Zone.
For the Quang Tri Airport project, approved in Decision No. 2148/QD-TTg dated December 20, 2021, the project has a scale of level 4C, with a capacity of 5 million passengers and 25,500 tons of cargo/year, invested by a joint venture of T&T Group and Cienco 4, starting from July 2024.

To date, the site clearance work has completed 241.3 hectares/265.3 hectares, reaching 91%. The items of the aircraft parking lot, service road, operator's house, cement concrete station, auxiliary area and drainage system have been completed. Land service areas, passenger stations, and air traffic control towers are preparing to be implemented simultaneously from May 2025. The runway and runway items are expected to be assessed in the second quarter of 2025, ensuring the airport's operation from July 2026.
At the meeting, T&T Group proposed to plan the "aerospace - logistics - service - trade - airport urban complex" with an area of over 10,800 hectares in Quang Tri. The complex aims to build a seamless aviation ecosystem, including research, manufacturing, maintenance of aircraft, cargo transit center, pilot training, and development of airport urban areas.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the new developments of Quang Tri, emphasizing that the province needs to plan to connect multi-modal transport infrastructure from airline, seaport, railway, highway, and at the same time take advantage of airports to develop marine tourism and services. Reasonable calculation of suburban planning will contribute to ensuring sustainable development for the locality in the future.
