According to initial reports, the incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. on August 29 in the Khe Sau area of the Cat Ba island crossing (Cat Hai district). A series of blocks of rocks and soil fell from the mountains onto the road, causing traffic disruption. Fortunately, there were no people passing by at the time of the landslide, so there were no casualties.

Immediately after receiving the news from the people, the Cat Hai Special Zone authorities sent forces to blockade the area and at the same time deploy excavators to clear the roadbed. The representative of the Cat Hai special zone leader said that the cause of the landslide has not yet been determined. However, it is possible that due to heavy rain and prolonged water soakage, rocks and soil will slide down. "Currently, the soil and rocks in this area are still likely to continue to erode. Therefore, the locality has temporarily blocked off and banned vehicles from traveling through this road area until safety is ensured" - said a representative of Cat Hai Special Zone.
