The Department of Transport of Phu Tho province has sent a document to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Phu Tho province, proposing a plan to rescue and salvage sunken vehicles and the part of Phong Chau bridge swept away by floods.
According to the plan of Huu Nghi Company Limited after surveying the actual scene, for sunken vehicles located outside the steel truss span of Phong Chau bridge, they can be salvaged immediately.
To do this, Huu Nghi Company Limited will use a salvage ship to bring the sunken vehicle closer to shore, then use a specialized 150-ton crane placed on shore to lift and lift it into the staging area.
For sunken vehicles located in the steel truss span of the bridge, they cannot be salvaged immediately, so a specialized 400-ton crane placed on shore and two salvage ships with necessary equipment and means will be used to lift them out of the water, then cut each span.
After cutting, the unit will use a tugboat to transport each steel truss span to shore and use a specialized 150-ton crane on shore to lift and place it in the staging area.
For vehicles deeply buried in sand and silt, additional hoses and suction will be used to remove these layers.
It is expected that Huu Nghi Company will use a 400-ton specialized crane and two ships equipped with salvage equipment to lift the concrete bridge deck, bridge piers, piles, and abutment bases submerged in the river. At that time, a Komatsu 450 excavator mounted on the ship will be used for demolition.
As for the collapsed T7 bridge pier that cannot be demolished or towed, the Phu Tho Provincial Department of Transport said that the enterprise will report to the competent authority to release buoys and warning signals to ensure waterway traffic safety, and wait until the water recedes before demolishing and clearing it (if necessary). The estimated time to implement salvage solutions is 60 days.
However, the salvage may be difficult because span 6 and part of span 7 are submerged under water, the flow velocity is high, and the amount of silt and sand is rapidly deposited.
This agency recommended that the People's Committee of Tam Nong district and relevant agencies work with a household in Zone 23, Van Xuan commune (Tam Nong district) to borrow land to set up a 400-ton specialized crane and arrange for the bridge section and salvage equipment to be assembled.
As Lao Dong reported, after many days of search and rescue efforts, authorities found the bodies of two missing victims in the Phong Chau bridge collapse, a couple living in Thach Dong commune, Thanh Thuy district (Phu Tho). These two unfortunate victims were riding on the same motorbike at the time the bridge collapsed on September 9.
