On May 26, the Gia Lai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board said that due to a shortage of labor, Army Corps 34 (stationed in Gia Lai) has conducted surveys and is expected to support more than 500 workers.
Currently, the Army forces are coordinating with construction contractors to survey the plan to allocate human resources to schools that are still lacking labor such as Ia O, Ia Chia, Ia Mo...
The rainy season is approaching, and receiving additional support for school construction labor is very valuable, helping projects accelerate progress to be completed in time for the new school year at the end of August 2026.
After Tet until now, in about 3 months, contractors have made efforts to urgently construct. However, the implementation process still faces many difficulties due to fluctuations in gasoline and construction material prices.
Labor is also scarce because the projects are located in remote border areas. However, some school sites have achieved a disbursement rate of over 40%. The Board will continue to urge and be determined to complete the project on schedule, despite the great pressure on time and progress," affirmed a representative of the Gia Lai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board.
As Lao Dong Newspaper has reported, labor costs are currently increasing sharply; general labor costs are about 450,000-500,000 VND/day, while main masons range from 600,000-700,000 VND/day.
Although contractors have increased machinery and added labor, the progress of many projects still does not meet requirements. Especially, there is a shortage of skilled workers and experienced plasterers and masons.
To retain workers, many units have to set up camps right at the construction site, rent more people's houses and support living expenses.
According to data as of May 7, 2026, the project to build 7 schools in border areas has only reached about 42% of the construction contract value; of which, 6/7 school sites are behind schedule.
The project to build border schools is being implemented in 7 communes including: Ia Mo, Ia Puch, Ia Pnon, Ia Nan, Ia Dom, Ia Chia and Ia O, with a total investment of more than 1,500 billion VND, on an area of nearly 52ha. When completed, the projects are expected to serve more than 7,000 students in border areas, where learning conditions are still lacking and the travel area is remote.
The project is implemented according to Conclusion Notice No. 81-TB/TW dated July 18, 2025 of the Politburo and Resolution No. 298/NQ-CP dated September 26, 2025 of the Government on investment in building schools in border communes.
