On August 4, the Military Command of Quang Tri province said that from July 25 to now, forces have searched and collected 3 more martyrs' remains in the Cau Nhi area, Nam Hai Lang commune, Quang Tri province.
Thus, by 5:30 PM on August 4, the total number of martyrs' remains found in this area was 13.
Previously, on July 10, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Quang Tri province organized a workshop to verify and conclude information about martyrs and martyrs' graves in the Cau Nhi area.
Based on the collected information, Team 584, Team 589, Political Department of the Quang Tri Provincial Military Command and related forces surveyed and expanded the search area at suspicious locations. The remains were found at a depth of about 20-50cm, along with many artifacts such as tanks, shoe soles, belts, buttons, medicine bottles, gun straps, AK magazines, canteen bags, ink pen caps, infantry shovels and some other items.
According to initial information, the martyrs belong to Battalion 6, Regiment 88, Division 308, who sacrificed in May 1972.
Currently, 13 sets of remains of martyrs have been brought to the Temple of Martyrs of Regiment 88, Division 308 in the Cau Nhi area. Units have arranged forces to protect, care for, and burn incense according to regulations.
In the coming time, functional agencies will take biological samples for cases that meet the conditions to serve DNA testing, contributing to identifying martyrs.
On the same day, August 4, Mr. Le Hong Vinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee and the working delegation came to inspect and encourage the forces performing the task of searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains at Cau Nhi.
After inspecting the scene and listening to the report on the search results, the Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee acknowledged the efforts of officials and staff of Team 584, Team 589, Political Department and participating forces.
Mr. Le Hong Vinh requested the units to continue to carefully review the area, exploit information sources, historical documents and witness opinions to expand the search scope.
The forces must also strengthen coordination with local authorities and people in providing information, ensuring safety in the process of performing tasks, striving to search for and repatriate as many martyrs' remains remaining in the area as possible.
