In 5 mountainous districts of Quang Ngai province, there are 1,854 households with 7,376 people living in areas at high risk of landslides, floods and flash floods. In the period of 2021 - 2030, Quang Ngai province plans to implement 35 resettlement projects to stabilize the lives of 292 households in 5 mountainous districts, areas at high risk of landslides, floods and flash floods; and 8 resettlement projects for 262 households in the delta areas at risk of natural disasters.
In 2025 alone, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ngai province has proposed implementing 8 resettlement projects, with a total cost of over 192 billion VND, to ensure safe housing for 323 households in areas at high risk of landslides and flooding. To stabilize people's lives, Quang Ngai province has prioritized relocating households in landslide-prone areas to new resettlement areas. Thousands of households who previously had to live in fear of landslides have now had stable lives and settled down.
At the resettlement area of Son Long commune, Son Tay district, 35 houses have been built, helping local people escape the threat of landslides. During the 2020 flood season, many families in the old village had to face serious landslides that caused their houses to collapse. Now, things are different. The 2.6-hectare resettlement area is fully equipped with basic amenities, helping people live in a safe and stable environment.
Mr. Dinh Van Ben, a resident of Ra Pan village, Son Long commune, shared: "People now have solid houses and no longer have to worry about landslides during the rainy season." A stable life in resettlement areas not only helps people feel secure but is also a big step forward in minimizing the impact of natural disasters.
Resolution 88 of the National Assembly sets a target of planning, arranging and relocating 60% of ethnic minority households in areas at risk of flash floods, landslides and landslides by 2025. To achieve this goal, Quang Ngai province has relocated thousands of households from dangerous areas, helping to stabilize their lives. However, there are still about 1,800 households that cannot be relocated.
Mr. Tran Phuoc Hien, Vice Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, said: "In the immediate future, when there are storms and major floods, the province will arrange forces ready to support people to get to safety. At the same time, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been directed to survey and propose residential areas that need to be relocated in the coming time."
"We also recommend that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Government support resources for the province to solve difficulties in building accompanying institutions when arranging residents," Mr. Hien added.
From now until 2025, Quang Ngai province will invest in building 35 resettlement areas for about 1,000 households, carry out inter-agency relocation for nearly 300 households and settle 559 households in place. These projects will contribute significantly to minimizing damage caused by natural disasters, while creating conditions for people to have a safer and more stable life.
