Quang Tri - The land that was once a hotbed during the war has now become a resting place for more than 55,000 martyrs who are children of provinces and cities across the country.

The whole province of Quang Tri currently has 72 martyrs' cemeteries, including two national cemeteries, Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery and Duong 9 National Martyrs' Cemetery; 46 stele houses named after commune-level martyrs, along with 13 memorial works, where people light incense to commemorate the children of the elite who died for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.

In recent years, Quang Tri province has, on behalf of the people of the whole country, preserved and cared for the martyrs' graves with all its respect and deep gratitude.

According to the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Tri province, the restoration and embellishment of works commemorating martyrs has always received special attention from the province. Every year, the province proactively mobilizes many resources from the central budget and local budgets to socialized sources to ensure cemeteries and memorial steles are always spacious and solemn. From 2011 to present, the total investment cost for the construction and restoration of cemeteries and memorial works in the area has reached 437.6 billion VND.

Through the review, the total funding requirement for continuing to build, renovate and embellish works commemorating martyrs in the province is 85.2 billion VND. Of which, the upgrading of 32 martyrs' cemeteries alone is expected to require 57.5 billion VND; 36 mothers with martyrs' certificates need 26.6 billion VND; and 6 martyrs' memorial sites need 1.1 billion VND.

Due to limited provincial budget, on December 3, 2024, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province sent a document to the Ministry of National Defense requesting immediate support of 45 billion VND to implement the restoration of 12 works commemorating martyrs, including 8 cemeteries and 4 steles. On that basis, at the end of February 2025, Military Region 4 issued a document notifying the Central Military Commission Standing Committee to agree to support this funding source.

Immediately after being approved, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province assigned the Department of Home Affairs to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, the Provincial Military Command and localities to urgently advise on the implementation of projects to upgrade and renovate works commemorating martyrs.

At martyrs cemeteries in Quang Tri province, along with the tomb steles, there are always "flowers offering martyrs' graves" for 365 days. Every important holiday of the country and the anniversary of gratitude in July, youth union members, cadres, workers, and people have come to cemeteries to clean up the cemeteries, and the roads to the cemeteries are also kept clean and spacious. Quang Tri province, despite many difficulties, always maintains the principle of remembering the source of drinking water, on behalf of the whole country, paying tribute to those who have devoted their lives to the Fatherland.
