HCMC - On the morning of June 16, more than 4,800 students began attending a competency assessment survey to enter grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1) for the 2025-2026 school year.

The competency assessment survey will take place over a period of 90 minutes. The exam consists of 2 parts.

Test part: 20 test questions (taken within 30 minutes).

The essay section (taken in 60 minutes) consists of 3 parts: English proficiency survey (listening, reading comprehension, writing), students doing research in English; Survey of Mathematical and logical thinking proficiency, students doing research in Vietnamese; Survey of reading comprehension and writing proficiency, students doing research in Vietnamese.

The Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City said that a total of 4,851 candidates registered for the exam, the school's enrollment target is 350 students. The corresponding admission rate is 1/14 (ie 1 in 14 students will be admitted), the highest in the past 8 years (2018-2025).

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung (Binh Duong province) said that this morning he woke up at 5:30 am, gave his children to eat and moved to the exam site of Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School.

"Our family does not focus on achievements, so we do not put any pressure on our children. "Certificate of admission to Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School is a matter of personal choice, the family only accompanies and supports me," Mr. Tung shared.

Ms. Huynh Thi Minh Tam (Binh Thanh District) said she was very nervous and worried. "This year, the competition rate is high, the level of competition is high, we don't know if our children will do well in school," Ms. Tam expressed.

The survey results are expected to be announced on June 22. Parents must submit an appeal from June 23 to before 4:30 p.m. on June 25 (if needed). The review results are expected to be announced on June 29.

Students who do not pass the entrance exam will still be admitted to grade 6 according to the regulations of the District Admissions Steering Committee.

This year, in addition to Tran Dai Nghia Secondary School - High School for the Gifted, there are 5 other secondary schools enrolling in grade 6 using the form of a competency assessment survey, including: Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School (District 7), Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School (Hoc Mon District) and 3 secondary schools in Thu Duc City, Tran Quoc Toan 1, Hoa Lu and Binh Tho.
