According to the latest report from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Vietnam's Human Development Index (HDI) currently reaches 0.766 (ranked 93/193 countries and territories), maintaining a solid position in the group of countries with high human development, affirming the effectiveness of inclusive social security policies and focused investment in people.
In particular, Vietnam's digital transformation process in the health sector is creating a major stepping stone to achieve the goal of universal health insurance coverage (SDG 3.8), making a key contribution to the country's commitment to sustainable health development.
According to the report in the meeting reviewing, evaluating the results and urging the progress of completing the tasks of the Ministry of Health in implementing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, by August 2026, Vietnam had over 34 million electronic health records successfully established, ensuring connection, data interconnection and integration on VNeID.
Along with that, the National Assembly has approved the Resolution approving the Investment Policy of the National Target Program for cultural, social, rural, ethnic and mountainous development in the period 2026 - 2035, setting the goal of managing universal health and improving population quality by 2035.
The changes in Vietnam's sustainable development are also attracting attention from international media. Xinhua News Agency reported on Vietnam's goal of providing electronic health records and lifelong health management for 100% of the population by 2030.
This is the core content in the national target program for the period 2026 - 2030 approved by the 16th National Assembly with a total budget of more than 808.5 trillion VND (about 31.1 billion USD), aiming for the goal of 100% of provincial-level Centers for Disease Control (CDC) fully meeting the capacity to test pathogens, antigens, antibodies of dangerous infectious diseases and control school health hygiene and clean water.
Faced with the context that Vietnam is increasingly having specific policies that are beneficial for the implementation of sustainable development goals, Ms. Ramla Khalidi - Head of UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam - affirmed that this agency will continue to support Vietnam in realizing development goals, ensuring that all socio-economic achievements serve the people and no one is left behind.
From efforts to accelerate the digitalization of grassroots healthcare, Vietnam is accelerating the establishment of a fair and sustainable healthcare platform for the community, thereby receiving recognition from the United Nations and international media as a positive example in implementing sustainable development goals.
