Bai Tho Mountain is considered the mountain with the most poems carved on its cliffs in the country, including two poems by King Le Thanh Tong and Lord Trinh Cuong.
In 1468, King Le Thanh Tong led his troops on a patrol in the Northeast sea, stopping at the foot of Truyen Dang mountain, adjacent to Ha Long Bay, to drink wine and compose poems. Moved by the beautiful natural scenery, the poet - King Le Thanh Tong had a poem carved on the cliff.
261 years later, in 1729, Lord An Do Vuong Trinh Cuong - a famous poet of the Le - Trinh Dynasty - also led his troops to patrol here. Reading the poem of King Le Thanh Tong, Lord Trinh responded with a seven-word eight-line poem and carved it on the cliff near King Le Thanh Tong's poem.
Those two famous poems are still on the cliff, although many of the words have faded, along with about 10 poems carved on the cliff later by literati and writers.
