On the morning of February 2nd, Mr. Pham Duc Dung's family (residing in Kieu Chau, Duy Xuyen commune, Da Nang) discovered a "strange" turtle crawling into the house. Seeing the unusual shape, Mr. Dung and his wife proactively contacted Duy Xuyen Commune Police to report and hand it over.
Through inspection, functional agencies determined that this is a sa nhân turtle (scientific name Cuora mouhotii) - a endangered, precious and rare forest animal belonging to group IIB according to Decree 06/2019/ND-CP (amended and supplemented by Decree 84/2021/ND-CP).

Currently, the turtle individual has been received by Duy Xuyen Commune Police in coordination with Inter-Commune Forest Protection Department area 3 for rescue, care and implementation of procedures for re-release to the natural environment.
Functional agencies recommend that sand turtles belong to the list of strict management and protection; acts of hunting, keeping, transporting, and trading illegally may be handled according to legal regulations. When wild animals are discovered, people need to report to the police or local forest rangers for guidance on handling according to the correct procedures, avoiding legal risks and contributing to biodiversity protection.
