On October 21, Mr. Nguyen Vu Thanh Long - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuyen Hoa commune (Quang Tri province) said that the local government has just coordinated with the Cao Quang Forest Ranger Station to receive and release a rare star apple turtle into the forest that was handed over by the people.
Previously, the family of Ms. Mai Thi Niem (residing in Uyen Phong village, Tuyen Hoa commune) discovered a turtle lost in their garden. Realizing that this was a rare wild animal, Ms. Niem proactively contacted the authorities and forest rangers to hand it over.

The female turtle weighed 0.8kg and was in normal health. After receiving the turtles, the authorities conducted procedures and released them back into the natural environment.
Saigon turtle (scientific name Cuora mouhotii) is on the List of endangered, precious and rare forest animals of group IIB according to Decree 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government.
