Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of households and the area decreased significantly - reduced 573 households and 45.1 ha.
The main reason is that the price of rice is maintained at a high and stable level. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Farmer of Tu Ky District - shared: "The price of rice has been stable, even high with quality rice varieties. My family not only retains the field but also hired more to transplant, a total of nearly 8 sao.
Along with that, farmer households take advantage of the opportunity to rent the fields of households no longer need to cultivate, thereby expanding the scale, convenient for mechanization, reducing production costs and improving efficiency.
Kinh Mon town and Nam Sach district are two prominent localities with no abandoned fields, thanks to policies to encourage people to maintain production. Meanwhile, Tu Ky district currently has the largest abandoned field with 57.3 hectares, followed by Thanh Mien district with 27.1 ha, Chi Linh City 25.3 ha and Ninh Giang district 20 hectares. Binh Giang district has the least abandoned field, with only 0.5 ha.
The reduction of abandoned agricultural land is a good sign, showing a positive change in land use and farmers' attachment to rice production.
The initiative of the people combined with favorable market factors is creating an important change in rice production in Hai Duong. The increasing reduction of abandoned fields not only contributes to ensuring food security but also a basis for developing commodity agriculture, gradually building a modern and sustainable agriculture.
Practical policy
Not only relying on agricultural prices, many localities in Hai Duong have actively implemented synchronously supporting production policies, thereby promoting people to return to the field. Typically, Nam Sach district - the locality is considered to have basically ended the abandoned field.
Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Mac Van Tuan - Head of Agriculture and Environment Department of Nam Sach district (Hai Duong province) - said that the situation of leaving the field previously stems from many causes, including the price of unstable agricultural products, low farming efficiency.
"Previously, the price of rice only ranged from 1,500 to 7,000 VND/kg. But in the last two years, the price has increased to 10,000 - 11,000 VND/kg, especially with high quality rice varieties. Good prices make people feel more secure when investing in production" - Mr. Tuan said.
Not only relying on the market, Nam Sach district has issued a series of actual support mechanisms. The locality supports funding for people to transplant rice by machine, application of unmanned aircraft to spray plant protection drugs, helping to significantly reduce labor and costs.
In the past, the situation of rats caused great damage, now the cooperatives have established a synchronous and organized mouse fishing team, helping people feel secure in production.
Thanks to these policies, many households who have left the field or rented voluntarily demanded their fields to continue cultivating.
The end of the abandoned field in Nam Sach district is not only the success of a locality, but also a valuable practical experience for rural areas in the province. When people are properly and sufficiently supported, when the field is properly invested, agricultural production will promote efficiency and sustainability.
