On December 3, at the Nhon Trach bridge construction site, workers and engineers are working urgently. Stages such as pouring concrete, installing beams and processing steel cages are being accelerated.
“Currently, the actual progress of the project has reached about 89% of the plan. At the construction site, more than 200 workers are working. Despite difficulties in raw material sources, the contractor is making efforts to speed up to soon complete the project,” said Mr. Koo Ja Kyoung, Project Director of Nhon Trach Bridge Package.
Nhon Trach Bridge is 2.6 km long, spanning the Dong Nai River, connecting Thu Duc City (HCMC) and Nhon Trach District (Dong Nai), and will start construction in September 2022.
This is the largest bridge on Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3, part of component project 1A, Tan Van - Nhon Trach section.
The total investment of Project 1A is 6,955 billion VND, of which 4,704 billion VND is ODA capital from Korea and counterpart capital from Vietnam. The cost of site clearance is 2,250 billion VND from the budget of Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.
Nhon Trach bridge project has a total investment of more than 1,600 billion VND.
According to Mr. Tran Van Thi - Director of My Thuan Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport - investor), construction packages of project 1A have completed more than 76% of the volume.
Nhon Trach Bridge was partially closed in September 2024 and is expected to close the final segment in January 2025. After that, the bridge completion work will be accelerated to be completed in time for the April 30, 2025 holiday, 4 months earlier than the original plan.
Besides Nhon Trach bridge, the 5.6 km long approach road project at both ends of the bridge with an investment capital of 1,071 billion VND is also being urgently implemented.
These two access roads are expected to be basically completed by April 30, 2025 and fully completed by June 2025, 3 months earlier than planned.
Nhon Trach Bridge will connect directly with Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway in Thu Duc City.
Ho Chi Minh City is speeding up construction of items at this expressway intersection to ensure synchronous exploitation when Nhon Trach bridge is completed.
When put into use, vehicles from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway will easily move across Nhon Trach Bridge to Dong Nai and vice versa, creating smooth traffic conditions between the two localities.
It is expected that by 2026, the entire 76 km long Ring Road 3 will be completed, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai, Binh Duong and Long An.
Closing Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3 not only completes the expressway network in the key economic region of the South but also contributes to reducing traffic congestion, especially in densely populated residential areas.
The route also helps save time and transportation costs, increasing the connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh airport in addition to the existing expressway.
Currently, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City are separated by large rivers such as Dong Nai, Long Tau, Dong Tranh and Thi Vai.
Road connections between the two localities are mainly via National Highway 1, National Highway 1K (via Binh Duong) and the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, but all three routes are currently overloaded.
In fact, Long Thanh bridge on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway is the only bridge directly connecting the two localities.
Dong Nai (National Highway 1) and Hoa An (National Highway 1K) bridges must pass through Binh Duong before entering Ho Chi Minh City.
The demand for travel between Thu Duc City and Nhon Trach urban area is increasing rapidly, but the current connection is only via Cat Lai ferry, making travel difficult.
