The Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project has a total length of 76km with a total investment of VND 75,378 billion, including site clearance and construction costs.
The route is designed with a scale of 6-8 lanes, in the first phase will build 4 expressway lanes, along with parallel roads on both sides.
Construction started in June 2023. Up to now, 20 main construction packages of Ring Road 3 component projects are being implemented synchronously.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the Ring Road 3 section through Ho Chi Minh City is 47km long and has completed all 10 packages, reaching about 19% of the work volume.
The 11.43km section through Binh Duong province has reached 14.5% of the overall progress, while the 6.8km section through Long An province has completed 48% of the volume.
The 11.2 km section through Dong Nai province alone is under construction at a sluggish pace, with output reaching only 7.2%.
Ho Chi Minh City and provinces have agreed on the expected time frames for opening some sections of Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3.
By April 30, 2025, a number of items at the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway will be completed, ensuring synchronous exploitation and connection of Nhon Trach Bridge with this expressway.
In December 2025, the expressway section through Long An, from Kenh Thay Thuoc bridge to Ben Luc intersection, is expected to open to traffic.
On January 30, 2026, the overpass section through Thu Duc City (HCMC) will be technically opened to traffic.
By April 30, 2026, the entire Ring Road 3 route through Ho Chi Minh City will be put into operation and some sections through Dong Nai and Binh Duong will also be open to traffic.
In December 2026, the entire Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 expressway will be officially completed and open to traffic.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the lack of sand has affected the progress of the project. However, after receiving instructions from the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, the supply of sand for the project has improved.
Sand demand in 2024 is 5 million m³, of which 1.8 million m³ has been mobilized to the construction site. In the remaining three months of the year, the project will need an additional 3.2 million m³ of sand, with 1.8 million m³ expected to be supplied from mines in Vinh Long, Tien Giang and Ben Tre.
Ho Chi Minh City is directing contractors and localities to increase human resources, equipment and organize construction in three continuous shifts to ensure progress, committing to completing the entire route by the end of 2026.
When completed, Ring Road 3 will connect 5 key expressways including: Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay, Ben Luc - Long Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai and Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh, creating a traffic network connecting the entire region.
The project not only helps reduce traffic congestion but also saves significant time and transportation costs.
Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 3 will open up new development spaces, creating an industrial corridor connecting seaport clusters, promoting logistics activities.
This will enhance competitive advantage and promote economic growth for the entire southern region.
