In the early morning of May 13, the quarry of Thien Son Tuyen Quang Company Limited in Group 10, Nong Tien Ward, Tuyen Quang City suddenly collapsed. Initially, it was determined that there were no human casualties in the incident but many vehicles and machines for mining were buried.
According to the reporter's records at the scene, it is estimated that thousands of cubic meters of rock have collapsed at the foot of the mountain, burying 2 excavators, of which 1 was completely buried. Many large rocks weighing tens of tons are rolling all over the mine.
Also according to the observation, the Nong Tien stone quarry was not allowed to have its roof covered or its floor cut according to regulations. The mine's slope is about 90 degrees, which caused rocks and soil to fall straight to the foot of the mountain after blasting as well as when an incident occurred, endangering workers and laborers.
Directly witnessing the incident, Mr. Dang Kim Sao (manager of the coal processing workshop) was still shocked by the stone quarry of Thien Son Tuyen Quang Company Limited, only a few dozen meters away.
"It was 4:30 am, when I was sleeping in the hut, I suddenly heard a loud noise, ran outside to look around and saw rocks and soil from the top of the mountain pouring down. The scene was terrible.
Fortunately, it is not the mining time, but during the day, dozens of lives have to die," Mr. Sao recounted.
To clarify the information about the incident, the reporter contacted by phone a leader of Thien Son Tuyen Quang Company Limited. However, this person said he did not know about the stone mine collapse and turned off the engine.
Currently, Nong Tien Ward Police are verifying the incident.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, on May 7, a work accident occurred at a quarry of Binh Ca Mining and Production Construction Investment Cooperative (Yen Son District, Tuyen Quang) in coordination with Son Hai Group, causing 1 worker to die.
Consecutive fatal accidents
Nong Tien stone quarry in group 10, Nong Tien ward (Tuyen Quang city) was granted an exploitation license by the People's Committee of Tuyen Quang province to Thien Son Tuyen Quang Company Limited in 2014. The exploitation period is 5 years.
After expiring in 2019, Nong Tien stone quarry was re-licensed for exploitation in 2020 under License No. 26/GP-UBND for a term of 18 years. The new mine is about 200m from the old location.
During more than 10 years of operation, this quarry has continuously had fatal accidents. In 2018, two students died from drowning in an un Bailed deep ditch of this quarry.
Most recently, in early 2024, a worker of Thien Son Tuyen Quang Company Limited was kicked to death while mining.
