On June 8, Mr. Chau Van Hoa - Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee - led a working delegation to survey the actual landslide points on the Hau River bank along the dyke line in My Thoi 2 hamlet, Cai Von ward.
According to local reports, due to prolonged hot weather interspersed with continuous heavy rains, on June 3, a serious landslide occurred in group 17, My Thoi 2 hamlet, causing great damage to the dyke line.
The landslide caused a dyke section about 30m long to collapse into the Hau River, penetrating deep into the mainland about 9m, with a depth of over 5m. Currently, this area continues to be at risk of expansion, threatening the safety of the works and people.
In addition to the landslide point above, the dyke line bordering the Hau River also has many other landslide locations in the Luc Si ferry wharf area, the section adjacent to Duoi Ca dam and the Lam Van Hiep section, although it has been temporarily reinforced before.
According to records, many sections of road surface along the dyke are currently only 0.5-1m wide. The prolonged landslide situation makes it difficult for people to travel, and at the same time poses a potential risk of traffic unsafety during the rainy season.
Through actual surveys, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Chau Van Hoa said that the Con Sung area currently has 4 landslide points with a total length of about 250m. The soil foundation is weak, mainly sand dunes, increasing the risk of continued landslides.
If not handled promptly, the landslide situation on the Hau River bank may directly affect about 120ha of fruit trees, crops and the lives and production activities of many households living in the area.

Faced with the above situation, the leaders of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with the Provincial Military Command and Cai Von ward to urgently complete procedures to announce an emergency situation for the particularly serious landslide point.
At the same time, relevant units are requested to advise on issuing an emergency order and immediately implement remedial solutions to minimize damage, protect property, production land and safety for local people.
For the remaining landslide points, the locality is required to review and assess the handling capacity according to the "4 on-site" motto, proactively balancing reinforcement costs. In case of exceeding authority, the locality summarizes the needs for the province to consider supporting.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to soon advise on the list of priority investment projects according to the Project on preventing and combating riverbank, coastal and embankment erosion in order to minimize damage caused by climate change.
