On May 7, the survey delegation of the Standing Committee of Vinh Long Provincial People's Council led by Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Council, came to survey the landslide situation at Thanh Long islet and many key points in Quoi Thien commune.
According to local reports, before 2016, Thanh Long islet had an area of about 50 hectares. However, due to the serious impact of landslides on the Co Chien River, the natural area is now only about 41.9 hectares, causing a great impact on people's lives.

Currently, Thanh Long islet has 36 households owning cultivated land, of which 6 households directly live and produce on the islet. In 2025 alone, this area experienced 3 serious landslides with a total length of more than 560 m, posing many potential safety risks.
Faced with the above situation, local authorities have coordinated with functional sectors to implement the "4 on-site" motto to initially overcome. At the same time, Quoi Thien Commune People's Committee proposed a plan to relocate and arrange resettlement for affected households.

On May 4, 2026, the People's Committee of Quoi Thien commune sent a report to the Department of Construction of Vinh Long province requesting to arrange 6 households in areas at high risk of landslides in Thanh Long islet into the flood-overcoming residential cluster of Trung Thanh commune to stabilize their lives.
At the working session, the locality also proposed to soon allocate capital to handle key landslide points due to financial difficulties and lack of professional human resources. Many riverside locations are currently continuing to show risks of landslides, requiring close monitoring.
Concluding the survey, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan emphasized that the landslide situation in the province is becoming increasingly complicated, in which Quoi Thien commune is a heavily affected area due to the characteristics of an island commune, many areas are seriously unsafe.
Mr. Tuan requested relevant units to urgently deploy plans to relocate people out of dangerous areas, and at the same time strengthen monitoring of landslide developments to promptly handle and minimize possible damage.
