Stone mine landslide in Thanh Hoa, 1 dead, 2 missing

Thanh Hoa - The rockslide at the exploitation site of Anh Tuan Co., Ltd. killed 1 person and 2 people are missing.

On May 21, information from Thanh Hoa Provincial Police said that at about 5 pm on May 20, a serious rock landslide occurred at the foot of a mountain belonging to the stone mining area of Anh Tuan Co., Ltd., Cam Tu commune, Thanh Hoa province.

According to initial information, at the time of the incident, Mr. Lo Van Thoi, born in 1986; Lo Van Quy, born in 1989 and Nguyen Van Ngay, born in 1988, all residing in Lao Cai province, were working at the foot of the rocky mountain when a large amount of soil and rock suddenly slid down from above.

The incident left 1 person dead on the way to the hospital, the remaining 2 people have not been found yet.

Immediately after the landslide occurred, on the night of May 20, Mr. Cao Van Cuong - Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee; along with representatives of departments, branches and local authorities were present at the scene to direct rescue and relief work.

Functional forces have mobilized fire prevention and fighting and rescue forces, military forces and many specialized vehicles and machinery to search for victims. Professional dogs, flycams and infrared heat sources detectors are also used to support access to the scene.

Directly directing at the scene, Mr. Cao Van Cuong requested the forces to focus highly on rescue and relief work with a spirit of urgency, decisiveness, and effort to search for victims as soon as possible, while ensuring absolute safety for the task force, because the scene area still has the risk of further landslides.

Rescue and relief forces are required to closely coordinate, synchronously deploy professional measures, and maximize specialized vehicles and equipment to search for buried victims and overcome the consequences of the incident.

As of the morning of May 21, functional forces are still continuing to deploy rescue and relief work, searching for 2 people missing in the landslide.
