Nghe An - Landslide in Yen Na commune isolates 2 villages, more than 1,200 people affected, 57 households relocated.

On the afternoon of September 19, Mr. Thai Luong Thien - Chairman of Yen Na Commune People's Committee, Nghe An province said that a serious landslide had just occurred in the area, causing 2 villages with more than 1,200 people to be isolated.

According to Mr. Thien, the landslide occurred at about 4:30 pm on the same day in the area outside Huoi Pai village. A large amount of soil and rock from the mountainside suddenly slid down, affecting provincial road 543C - the only road connecting this area with the outside.

Landslides have isolated Huoi Pai and Cha Lum villages. The two villages currently have about 309 households with more than 1,200 people, mostly ethnic Thai people living there.

Immediately after the incident occurred, Yen Na commune authorities organized to blockade the dangerous area, warn and prevent people and vehicles from approaching the landslide point to ensure safety.

In recent days, heavy rain has continuously occurred in Yen Na commune. Water has seeped deep into the mountainsides, causing the soil to become unstable, and there is a risk of further landslides in many locations.

Faced with the complicated developments of rain and floods, local authorities have organized a review of residential areas located near mountainsides, streams and high-risk areas.

By the evening of September 19, 57 households located in landslide-prone areas had been relocated to safe places by local authorities.

We are continuing to review the entire area. High-risk locations will be warned and people will be relocated to safe places" - Mr. Thai Luong Thien said.

Previously, on September 18, a working group of Yen Na commune when inspecting the flood situation in the area also encountered a landslide and luckily escaped.

Currently, Yen Na commune authorities continue to closely monitor weather developments, inspect points at risk of landslides, and maintain warning forces to support people to limit possible damage.
